What the building actually has
Heated pool and hot tub
Outdoors, in the courtyard the buildings wrap around, and heated through the winter — the loungers sit under snow while the water stays open. The hot tub is built into the same deck, a step from the pool.
The courtyard in summer
The same deck without the snow. The pool has a shallow shelf at one end, and the courtyard is enclosed by the lodge buildings and the pines rather than facing the road.
Fitness room
A real room rather than a corridor with a treadmill in it: two treadmills, a recumbent bike, an elliptical, a cable tower, leg machines, free weights and medicine balls, with windows onto the trees.
Underground garage
Each residence comes with one dedicated space in the secure garage at no extra cost, with more parking in front of the building. Spaces are limited, so tell us how many cars you are bringing before you arrive.
The main lodge
Building 50 is the lodge proper — a double-height room with a stone fireplace, an antler chandelier and windows to the trees. It is also where the key lockbox lives, so you pass through it on arrival.
Courtyard grills
Gas grills and outdoor tables on the pool deck, in the middle of the complex. Useful on the evenings when nobody wants to queue for a table on Main Street.
- Direct underground walkway to the BreckConnect Gondola. A direct underground walkway runs from the building across to the BreckConnect Gondola, so the crossing to the lift is under cover rather than along the road in ski boots.
- Guest laundry. A shared laundry room on the residence floors, with machines and a folding counter. We provide towels for the number of guests booked rather than restocking mid-stay, so this is how a longer stay stays in clean towels.
- Access to One Ski Hill Place. Mountain Thunder guests can use the pools and aquatics at One Ski Hill Place at the base of Peak 8, and there is a resort shuttle between the two. Worth knowing because the Mountain Thunder pool does close for maintenance in some periods.
Where it sits, and what the gondola connects it to
Straight-line distances from the main lodge, computed from the buildings’ own coordinates. They are straight lines, not walking routes, and we give no walk times: how long half a mile takes you in December is not something we can promise. The gondola on the diagram is its real surveyed alignment and the whole drawing is to scale from the same coordinates as the figures. The walkway is drawn between its two ends: it runs underground, and we have not mapped the line it takes.

The nearest thing to the lodge and the reason to stay here. A direct underground walkway runs from the building across to it, so you reach the lift under cover. From Breckenridge Station the gondola climbs to the Peak 7 and Peak 8 base areas without the car moving.

The full BreckConnect run is 1.43 mi of cable from Breckenridge Station, through Shock Hill, to the Peak 7 and Peak 8 base areas. That ride is how you reach the mountain from here, and it is why the car can stay in the garage.

Where exactly is Mountain Thunder Lodge?
On Mountain Thunder Drive, in two buildings — 35 and 50, with 50 the main lodge. A direct underground walkway runs from the building across to the BreckConnect Gondola, so you reach the lift under cover. In a straight line it is 0.15 mi to the gondola, 0.36 mi to City Market and 0.38 mi to Main Street — a short walk. We give distances rather than walk times because how long half a mile takes you in December is not something we can promise.
Is it ski-in/ski-out?
Not in both directions. You ride the gondola up rather than skiing from the door, and the walkway across to it runs underground so that crossing is under cover. Coming home is different: you can ski to the building on the Gondola Ski Back trail, which runs immediately behind it — but only while it is open, typically mid-December to mid-April, depending on snow. If skiing to your door in both directions is a requirement, our ski-in/ski-out homes are the ones to look at.
What is in the building?
A heated outdoor pool and hot tub in the courtyard, a fitness room, a guest laundry and an underground garage, shared by the residences. The pool is outdoors and stays open through the winter. What is inside each home differs — the residence pages list them individually.
